My favourite piece of equipment is my homemade Spirit Board (“Pete’s Board”). It’s much larger than a traditional Ouija Board and we use a glass instead of a planchette. The one I have at the moment is the 3rd board I’ve made (the others became tatty and too rough to use) and we’re on our 2nd glass (the first one broke under very unusual circumstances), but a bit like Triggers Broom in Only Fools and Horses, I’ll always say I’ve had the same one since I started attending paranormal investigations 16 years ago!
I do have some other kit but sadly not the patience or talent to use it properly or analyse the results – luckily at KPS we have better people than I whom are willing to do so. If I am ever wealthy enough, I’m going to buy the team a van and have it fitted out with state of the art kit to use as a base on investigations.
I love EVP as a subject and one of my top 3 experiences was pure EVP gold (sadly the recording has long been lost).
I am sensitive and have trained as a medium. I’ve also studied anomalous phenomena scientifically, so whilst I am psychic my feet are well and truly on the ground and on any given investigation I need to be pushed some way down the paranormal road before I’m prepared to engage with unexplained events, even if it’s me that has encountered them. I think scepticism is very healthy and we should encourage a broad cross section of beliefs within our team, but cynicism is ugly and I have no time whatsoever for fraudulent mystical behaviour. If you push the glass, you’re off the board!
My first investigation was at a pub near Winchester on 11th December 2005. Since then I’ve organised and/or attended about 150 investigations at locations across the whole of the UK and whilst I’ve enjoyed them all, some stand out more than others. Just after I got hooked on “ghost busting” I decided I had 3 goals:
1/ To see a “real” ghost;
2/ To see something inanimate move “on its own”;
3/ To be scared witless.
I believe I’ve nailed the first one, the second one still eludes me and the third……..well, it’s come a little close on two occasions but I’m waiting for the big one.
My favourite location is Maidstone Museum but my best all round investigation was at The Black Swan Inn in Devizes.
My most memorable event was at Leeds Castle – and I wasn’t even there for an investigation. I was in the Maiden’s Tower doing a building survey with my Father (who is open minded but sceptical and challenging). We had locked all the doors from the inside to prevent any public wandering in and given the reason we were there, we had been all over the building and knew we were alone. We were taking a lunch break and just chatting when on the floor above we heard some heavy scraping sounds – like furniture being dragged across a wooden floor. We looked at eachother. We charged up the stairs. And found nothing and no one………
